Parent/Teacher Choir Info

Dear Teachers, Parents, and Guardians,

Thank you so much for your interest in singing in the Parent/Teacher Choir on the Greendale Choir’s Spring Concert!  I am excited to announce that we have almost twenty-five Greendale parents and faculty members signed up to sing in the event!  I am looking forward to making music with all of you and the choir combined!

Attached to this letter is the sheet music for the song we’ll be singing:  My Lord, What a Morning.  As I said in my previous letter, you can find a good YouTube video of this specific version of the song (there are several different arrangements out there) if you search on YouTube for “My Lord, What a Morning Newton” and select the Newton Community Children’s Choir video.  Below is some pertinent information regarding sheet music in general, and the performance of this piece in particular.

  • These sheet music copies belong to Greendale Elementary School and must be returned after the concert.  Just like an overdue library book, you may be charged the value of the sheet music if it is not returned.
  • You may make “reminder marks” in the music, but in *pencil only* - no pen or marker!
  • Examples of things you may wish to mark in your music include (but are not limited to):
    • Breath marks
    • Measure numbers
    • Tempo marks (fast/slow)
    • Dynamic marks (loud/soft)
    • Pronunciation marks
    • “Guide” marks (reminders of when to sing, which staff to follow, etc.)
  • The Parent/Teacher Choir will sing with the choir in certain parts of the song, and independently in others.  Here is a run-down of that:
    • In the beginning:                                 All sing in unison
    • In measure 11, at “You’ll”:                    Parents/Teachers – top staff, choir – bottom 2 staves
    • In measure 21:                                   Parents/Teachers – bottom staff, choir – top staff
    • In measure 29:                                   All sing in unison
    • In measure 36, at “when”:                   Choir sings alone
  • Specific breath marks to note (I put a comma in the staff where a breath needs to be, and I draw an arching line from one note to the next where there is no breath where one is expected to be):
    • Top of p. 3, measure 17:                      No breath after “hand”
    • Middle of p. 4, measure 32:                 No breath after “morning”
    • Middle of p. 4, measure 33:                 Breath after “Lord”
    • Middle of p. 4, measure 34:                 No breath after “morning”
    • Bottom of p. 4, measure 36:                Breath after “fall”

If any of the above makes you say, “Whoa, wait a minute!  I’m lost!,” don’t worry!  I will be more than happy to help you on an individual basis or in rehearsal when the time comes.  I’m just getting out to you as much information as I can, which will help us in our brief rehearsals in late April/early May.

Please allow me to thank you again for volunteering for this “experiment” of mine.  I can’t wait to have everyone together on the stage!  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by phone at Greendale (276 – 739 – 3500), through Celly (@greendalechoir) or by email (bfore@wcs.k12.va.us).

Sincerely,
